Music in Me

Loved the movie August Rush.  I think all of us has the ability to play a form of music.  Like in August Rush it might not be a conventional instrument.  It is our way of expressing emotions for the things around us.

At the age of 35 I started a journey that I had dreamed of for years.  Learning to play the piano.  As a girl it was something I wanted to do but the distance we lived from town made it not work out.  So I decided when I had kids I would learn to play with them.

My wonderful husband helped make that dream a reality when he bought my piano for me.  The girls were 5 and 4 when they started playing piano and I would work at keeping up with them in their books.  Then two years later their piano teacher offered a group class for adults and teens.  I joined the group and the rest is fast becoming history.

Yesterday we made a trip to the local Yamaha dealer.  No, we were not buying a motorbike.  It was time to get a piano for our apartment here in Ireland.  It is a holiday but it is a working one. lol  I had already made a trip to the shop two and a half weeks ago when we arrived.  I had done my homework and price comparing.  I knew what I wanted.  The salesman was surprised at how quickly I made my choice but I had had it running around my brain for a while.  We now have an electric piano in our living room.

The only problem with the piano I chose was it would not fit in a cab.  So we carried it home.  The kids were a great help.  We all decided that advertising that it is light weight and compact might not have been based on carrying the thing about 1 1/2 miles.  We fought through crowds in the downtown  and the winds near the apartment would catch the big box.  We stayed well away from the water side of the walkway.

While we were at the Yamaha dealer the kids all found a piano and were playing.  Samuel found a stage piano like  I have never seen before.  It let you mix a lot of sounds as you played.  Sabrina found a digital piano that had a screen it showed what an acoustic piano would be doing inside while you were playing.  Sarah found a baby grand piano.  She was playing her recital song Across The Stars, it is the love theme from Star Wars.  She was doing an amazing job.  The cool thing was that people on the street passing by the little glass shop with the door wide open, were doing a studder step to look in the door and listen to her play.  Her memory was good after 3 weeks of not playing.  She was in that special place and didn't even notice. lol

We spent six days with my sister and her kids before leaving to Belfast.  I am amazed at how a child can be influenced in such a short time.  Samuel is still crazy about Audi's since hanging out with his cousins counting them, drawing them and driving hot wheels ones.  On our bus rides we have passed an Audi dealer it is about two blocks from the apartment.  And in the window the have a shiny new Audi R8, gasp.  Samuel has been asking me to take him there for a closer look.  Well yesterday that is just what we did.  The staff were so nice.  They were just fine with a little boy needing to bring a camera into the show room to take pictures of their sweet car.  He was a very happy guy after that.  We talked to several sales staff, they were all quick to offer assistance.  When they heard we were here from Canada they were quick to suggest thing we might like to go see.  We were even invited back to ask about more things to see in Ireland.  I was very impressed.
