Tall Ship

This weekend the final leg of the Tall Ship Race 2012 is being run.  Their final port of call is Dublin, Ireland.  The tall ships are masted ships.  I have always found the tall ships to be an exciting ship.  The true test of man against the sea.

You can imagine my excitement when we walked home from town last week and saw a tall ship anchored in our marina.  They are part of the race and had taken some of their days off to visit Belfast and promote their ship in the race.  At 4:30 they were going to be allowing people to board the ship for a look around the deck area.  It was the longest couple hours, I kept checking the clock.

Finally it was time.  There are soooo many ropes for the sails.  We were able to talk to the midship lady for a bit.  She was in charge during her watch for all the ropes that operate the sails midship.  The Fryderyk Chopin is being crewed by an crew of International trainees.

After spending two days in our harbour.  The Fryderyk Chopin (Poland) set sail to rejoin the final leg of the race.  I was excited to discover they place first in their boat class. =)  Our front windows afforded us a great view of her leaving port with all hands on deck.  Their national anthem was playing loudly for all to hear.
